Who are we?

We are the 18th Maidenhead (Desborough School) Scout Group.  The Group was formed in 1941 under the auspices of its Sponsoring Authority, Maidenhead County Boys’ School, now Desborough School, Shoppenhangers Road, Maidenhead, Berks SL6 2QB.  Each of the three uniformed sections of the Group (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) meet weekly during school term time.

The Group owns a comprehensive range of equipment which supports the teaching of scouting skills and their use in the practical aspects of the activity program.  As important is the development of personal qualities in young people – to be responsible, to lead, to work as a team, to be self-reliant, to plan and to undertake community service tasks.

In 1995 we lost our headquarters in a fire, but were able to continue our activities with the help and support of Desborough School, who kindly offered us the use of premises and facilities.  In January 2003, we celebrated the official opening by Theresa May MP of our new Scout Hut in the grounds of Desborough School.

We are looking forward to extending our membership so that even more young people can benefit from what scouting has to offer.  We currently have vacancies in each of the sections.  Come and attend a meeting to find out if scouting is for you!

Join us: as an Adult Helper, Leader, Skills Instructor

There are many opportunities for adults to enjoy and support Scouting. Working directly with young people in the sections includes being a Leader; an Assistant Leader; Helper; Skills Instructor and so on. There are also opportunities to help at Group level and in the District as Administrators, Committee Members, Fundraisers and so on.
